
Hock Lee Bus Riot occurred on 12th May 1955, Singapore.4 people were killed and 31 injured in the violence.The Hock Lee bus Riot started because the Singapore Bus Workers' Union (SBWU) were protesting for better salary and shorter working hours.Hock Lee Bus Company responded by firing 229 workers
12 May 1955 was known as the Black Thursday. Chinese students helped during the bus riot by providing food and entertainment. They were influenced by the MCP communists. British felt that Marshall was incapable of handling the riots and the Communist problem.Riots ended on 14th May 1955, with the workers getting their jobs back.
British did not think that Marshall’s government would be able to rule Singapore well
