Hock Lee Bus Riot -Chapter 2

Why and How did the Hock Lee Bus Riot begin?:

The Hock Lee Bus Riot started because the employees were not satisfied with their salary. The employees wanted to rebel by joining the SBWU, an opposing rival to the Hock Lee Bus Company.Their companies management tried to prevent two thirds of the employees to join a Union associated with (SBWU) Fong and Lim's Singapore Bus Workers Union.
The Hock Lee Bus Company Management decided to fire all those employees who joined the SBWU.

On 27 April 1995, 150 employees  formed a human chain to prevent buses from moving at them Hock Lee Bus Company. Students and other sympathisers came in to lend their support when the police tried to break up the protest.
